Konrad (played by Klaus Löwitsch) is a veteran of the former East German Army's Special Forces. He has been entrusted by a fallen comrade in Afghanistan to look after the comrade's son, Robert (played by Thomas Kretschmann). After the reunification of Germany, Konrad serves as a security guard at a large energy company, where he is supervised by Robert. On the eve of a new energy system going online, a group of former East German criminals dissatisfied with West Germany plots to sabotage the system and is unexpectedly confronted by Robert. Then, to Robert's astonishment, he discovers that Konrad is actually an accomplice of these criminals...
