2,500 years ago, the ancient land of India was plagued by war, causing immense suffering to its people. The powerful kingdom of Kosala was unstoppable, continuously annexing surrounding small nations. Amidst the shadows of war, the tranquil Shakya country was about to welcome a great life. King Suddhodana (voiced by Kawai Kiyoshi) observed the custom of having his beloved wife, Queen Maya, return to her homeland to give birth, where she gave birth to a handsome baby boy named Siddhartha. From a young age, Siddhartha was kind-hearted and was utterly unmoved by lavish feasts and beautiful dances, while the suffering of life and death in the world became a lasting concern for this noble prince. On the other hand, Chapra (voiced by Sakai Masato), born a Shudra, vowed to change his own fate. Seizing the opportunity, he became the adopted son of General Buddai (voiced by Genda Tetsuaki) of the Kosala kingdom, ultimately growing into an invincible warrior, yet the predetermined fate was difficult to change. On the eve of the Buddha's enlightenment, the night began to reveal its light... This film is adapted from the original work "Buddha" by the manga artist Osamu Tezuka and is the first part of the "Tezuka Osamu no Buddha" trilogy, with all character names in the synopsis based on their translations in classical Chinese.
