The story begins in Datong, Shanxi in 2001, where Qiao Qiao (played by Zhao Tao) and Bin Bin (played by Liao Fan) have been in love for many years. Qiao Qiao hopes to settle down and live a stable life with Bin Bin, but Bin Bin, as a local kingpin, has higher ambitions. In an unexpected incident, Bin Bin is ambushed and his life is in danger. Qiao Qiao steps up with Bin Bin’s hidden gun to save him but is sentenced to five years in prison for illegal possession of a firearm. Five years later, upon release, Qiao Qiao discovers that the world around her has changed drastically, yet her sincere feelings for Bin Bin remain unchanged.
