Chytilová: The story of Calamity is about a train that stops due to an avalanche, and I metaphorically represent GCD as the avalanche. People want to escape from their predicament and seek freedom. ...... This film was permitted to be made because at that time, international women's organizations questioned the Czech government on why I couldn't make a film, and they replied that I could, so I was allowed to shoot it.
