Known as "The Three Swords of the World," the Tenseiga, Sounga, and Tetsusaiga govern the three realms of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity, all once owned by Inuyasha's father, Tōga. Tōga fell in love with the human princess, Izayoi, and their union led to the birth of Inuyasha, which incited jealousy in the warrior Sesshomaru, who secretly loved Izayoi. Wounded gravely, Tōga used Tenseiga to revive his beloved who had been killed by Sesshomaru, and subsequently engaged in a fierce battle with him. After the grueling fight, with his life nearing its end, Tōga entrusted the Tenseiga and Tetsusaiga to Sesshomaru and Inuyasha respectively, while the evil and powerful Sounga was permanently sealed away. Hundreds of years later, Sounga reaches the modern world through the Bone-Eating Well and breaks free from its seal.
