This film is divided into three chapters, showcasing the different lives of Yang Zheng (played by Li Yaping) and Wen Hui (played by Xu Jinglei) 12 years later. Chapter One: Yang Zheng and Wen Hui have been married in Beijing for many years. Although Yang Zheng has fulfilled his material promises to Wen Hui, they have grown increasingly distant emotionally. Finally, after a gathering, Yang Zheng leaves home for the first time... Chapter Two: The group organizes a reunion in Shanghai, where the host invites both auto mechanic Yang Zheng and sales clerk Wen Hui. The former is in the midst of a divorce from his ex-wife, while the latter is raising twin sons on her own. At the gathering, spurred on by their classmates, they once again find themselves drawn to each other... Chapter Three: Late at night, Yang Zheng receives a transoceanic phone call from Wen Hui. She sings a birthday song while crying, prompting Yang Zheng to resolve to travel to France to find her. However, upon arriving at the Bordeaux train station, Yang Zheng realizes that Wen Hui is not there to welcome him, but rather a young girl. They enjoy fine wine at a vineyard, but Yang Zheng gradually uncovers the source of Wen Hui's pain... This film is a sequel to the 1998 television version, created by the original team. Faye Wong and Eason Chan contribute the song "Because of Love."
