Once upon a time, there was a fallen scholar Liu Yanchang (played by Zheng Peipei), who, having failed in his academic pursuits, was already in a state of despair. Walking alone in the desolate outskirts, he was filled with trepidation. In a moment of panic, he stumbled upon a dilapidated temple, where the Three Holy Mothers holding the Lotus Lantern were worshipped. In the temple, he spoke words to the statue and boldly wrote a five-character poem on the wall. Liu Yanchang soon fell asleep, unaware that the Holy Mother of Huashan (played by Lin Dai) had made her divine appearance in the temple. The Holy Mother admired Liu Yanchang's handsome appearance, and upon seeing the poem on the wall, her heart was moved. After various trials and tribulations, Liu Yanchang finally married the Three Holy Mothers. Their celestial and mortal union became a beautiful story, but it stirred a grave taboo in the heavenly realm. The Holy Mother's brother, Erlang Shen, led an army to pressure the situation, imprisoning the Holy Mother on Huashan. Years later, Liu Yanchang's son Chenxiang (played by Lin Dai) grew up, having heard his mother's story, and performed the legendary act of splitting the mountain to rescue her... This film is adapted from Chinese folklore and is also the last work of the famous actress Lin Dai.
