A young Japanese girl, Nozomi (played by Zeng Xiaoqing), is forced into prostitution, becoming the top karayuki san (Japanese women who worked as sex workers in the late 19th century) in Malaya, while secretly acting as a spy for Japan. She befriends a Chinese girl, Qing Ling (played by Fang Rong), who is trying to escape a life of luxury. The story takes place in the 1920s in a patriarchal British colony, where Nozomi is targeted by British and Japanese intelligence, while Qing Ling is betrayed by her lover and thrown into prostitution. How will the two girls support each other and survive? "Sisters of the Night" is a sequel to the award-winning series "Last Madame."
