Xu Xiaolei and Su Yu are a loving young couple, and the warmth and romance between them make many friends envious. Su Yu's computer program has become the center of attention and competition among various forces, with two individuals named Li Mu representing two of these forces. The fact that both share the same name adds to the confusion surrounding the event. In an effort to force Su Yu to comply, the older Li Mu has Xu Xiaolei diagnosed with HIV through Doctor Lin, leading Su Yu to borrow money to treat Xu Xiaolei, ultimately driving her to sell the program. However, after Su Yu steals the program, she dies in a staged car accident. Luo Naiming, a girlfriend of the older Li Mu whom he met in the U.S., had helped Xu Xiaolei when she was in the country and fell deeply in love with him. After returning to China and learning about Xu Xiaolei's marriage to Su Yu, she feels a sense of loss. To help Xu Xiaolei, she sells her car, unaware that the older Li Mu is the mastermind behind this tragedy. The younger Li Mu was Su Yu's childhood sweetheart; due to their parents' relationship, they could not become a couple. As the younger Li Mu puts it, Su Yu owes him a life. Luo Naiming advises Xu Xiaolei to turn the disk over to the public security bureau, but Xu Xiaolei refuses, fearing it would make Su Yu a criminal. He opens the disk himself, but he never expected it to be a virus disk. This makes Luo and Xu regret, and while sorting through Su Yu's belongings, they discover that Su Yu had hidden the program disk behind her picture frame. At Luo Naiming's house, the older Li Mu encounters Xu Xiaolei, who is with Luo Naiming. The older Li Mu kidnaps Xu Xiaolei to seize the program, and Luo Naiming offers to exchange the program for Xu Xiaolei's release. The older Li Mu hands over the program disk to a buyer in Hong Kong, only to find it is fake, and he is killed by the buyer. This plunges Luo Naiming into despair. At this moment, the younger Li Mu, who has fallen in love with Luo Naiming, goes to her house and tells her that he switched the program disk. The Hong Kong buyer suspects that the fake disk is a scheme by Xu Xiaolei and Luo Naiming and sends hitmen after them.
