Every year, many different species of migratory birds travel thousands of miles back and forth across the US-Mexico border, unconcerned by the various laws and barriers created by humans. Devout birdwatchers on both sides of the border, as well as people from all political factions, share a strong emotional connection to these creatures and their perilous journeys. The documentary short "Birdwatchers," directed by Otilia Portillo Padua (from "Diario a Tres Voces"), celebrates those who observe, record, monitor, and fight for the rights and habitats of these species, presenting migration as a means of survival from a different perspective.
