In ancient times, there was a bookworm who buried himself in books all day long, believing that answers to all questions could be found in them. Due to his rote learning without understanding, his “complete faith in books” often led to misinterpretations. One day, he put his feet on the stove while reading an article about how ancient people created fire by drilling wood, completely unaware that his shoes were catching fire while he kept mumbling, “First comes smoke, then comes fire.” When he finally realized his shoes were burning, he panicked and searched for a solution in books. He read that “oranges are warm and can reduce fire,” so he hurriedly ate an orange, and the juice dripped onto his shoes, extinguishing the flames. He felt elated, praising the greatness of books, but his shoes were already unwearable. When he went out to buy shoes, the vendor asked for his size, and he scratched his head: “I’ll go home to get it!” After rummaging through everything, he found his father’s book and saw a note that said, “Wear shoes six inches,” ignoring the earlier note that said, “My son is seven years old” and the later detail that “feet grow with the person, step by step.”
