This animated short film is a paper-cutting piece, adapted from the well-known fable "The Empty Flute". The King of Qi, King Xuan, who loved grandeur, particularly enjoyed listening to his musicians play the flute. However, he was dissatisfied with the skills of the musicians under his command. To cater to him, the ministers summoned 300 skilled flute players from across the nation, but due to a mistake, they realized one was missing just as they were about to present them to King Xuan. In their distress, Mr. Nanguo, who was adept at taking advantage of situations, volunteered himself, even though he did not know how to play the flute. Nevertheless, he managed to amuse King Xuan with sweet words and tricks, earning him money and beautiful women as rewards. As the situation improved, Mr. Nanguo became increasingly proud, and in his grand dream, he even imagined himself as the king. Unexpectedly, King Xuan suddenly passed away, and the succeeding King Min was a ruler who preferred quietness and enjoyed solo performances.
