Freddy (Steve Martin) and Lawrence (Michael Caine) are two con artists who have been floating around for many years. Their target is lonely and wealthy single women, whom they deceive emotionally for profit. In a sense, Freddy and Lawrence are old rivals, and their direct and indirect competition has never ceased. A girl named Janet (Glenne Headly) appears before the two love con artists, and her beauty and charm quickly attract their attention. Targeting Janet, Freddy and Lawrence make a bet: whoever wins Janet's heart first will be the undisputed womanizer. They immediately spring into action. However, what neither of them expects is that the situation in this game gradually spins out of their control.
