The story of the film is inspired by the novel "Youthful Rebellion: The Adventures of Nick Twisp" by the absurdist realistic writer C.D. Payne, adapted into a screenplay by Gustin Nash. Nick (Michael Cera) is obsessed with French culture but always feels out of place, unable to change his family circumstances. Until he meets the beautiful girl next door, Sheeni (Portia Doubleday). She enjoys collecting records of French singers, leading Nick to believe they are made for each other, but as a virgin, how will Nick cope? To win Sheeni's heart, Nick creates another persona—Francis Dillinger. Francis is the complete opposite of the timid Nick; he is a pure bad boy who does things Nick might never dare to try. The "two" join forces to create "fantastic tricks," resulting in constant laughs. This time, will Nick fulfill his youthful rebellion?
