The Danish prince Hamlet (Laurence Olivier) experiences the mysterious death of his father in the garden. The king's brother, Claudius, ascends to the throne and marries the former queen, Hamlet's mother. The sudden demise of his father, along with his mother's remarriage, leaves Hamlet in deep sorrow. One day, Hamlet's friend Horatio informs him that at midnight, a sorrowful and vengeful ghost appears on the castle battlements.
