Architect Malik (played by Antonin Stahly-Vishwanadan), born in Tunisia and raised in France, returns to his homeland for his father's funeral. Amidst her mixed emotions, his mother inevitably begins to think about her son's future. However, Malik is attracted to men—this open secret becomes the biggest obstacle between mother and son. When he falls in love with a handyman from his mother's home, Bilal (played by Salim Kechiouche), a direct conflict becomes unavoidable. Malik has a childhood nightmare. He has always imagined that there is a white silk thread attached to him. The thread comes from his mother, reminding him, restraining him, and binding him, making his life difficult. However, he is unaware that the white silk thread is also a bond of family and love. The film is beautiful, with the fresh North African coast as picturesque as a romantic painting. It does not dwell on negativity; love and familial ties are depicted with vivid brightness. Claudia Cardinale, playing the mother, is a national treasure of Italy, once voted one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world when she was younger. She powerfully portrays a mother who is sharp yet soft-hearted, critical yet forgiving. The final scene, where Malik teaches his son to swim and ultimately lets go of the silk thread, leaves viewers with a sense of reflection and release.
