Maggie (Sarah Jessica Parker) is a young single mother raising her teenage daughter, Summer (Rosie Day), on her own. To strengthen their relationship, Maggie decides to take her daughter on a vacation to a village in Tuscany. What Maggie doesn't expect is to encounter her former lover, Luca (Raoul Bova), who is still single, leading Maggie to daydream. Because she misses her boyfriend back in New York, Summer decides to secretly go to New York without informing her mother. Coincidentally, Luca's aging mother, Carmen (Claudia Cardinale), also has her own secret plan, and so the two women team up, steal Luca's car, and set off on their journey. Upon learning about all this, Maggie and Luca have no choice but to pursue them.
