This film is adapted from a novel of the same name and tells the story of Keiichi Terumaki, a suspect arrested for the murder of a couple, who is sentenced to death. He escapes during transport. The news of Terumaki's escape is widely reported on television and other media, and although the police make every effort to track him down, they still fail to capture him. On the other hand, the mother of the male victim, Yuko Ioi, suffers from dementia and is traumatized by the incident, remaining in a nursing facility for rehabilitation. While on the run, Terumaki changes his name and appearance in hiding, encountering many people including construction site workers like Tomoya Nonomura, and helps them out of their predicaments. When Nonomura and others discover that Terumaki is a wanted death row inmate, they begin to question, "Is he really a murderer?"
