More than 30 years have passed since the world's worst nuclear disaster, which released a massive amount of highly radioactive fallout into the atmosphere, totaling over 100 times the radiation from the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Nowadays, two scientists have been granted access to the infamous area surrounding the Chernobyl nuclear power plant: biologist Rob Nelson and anthropologist Mary-Ann Ochota. They are among the first scientists permitted to enter the hazardous zone of Chernobyl without restrictions, aiming to investigate the effects of 30 years of global nuclear contamination on the environment and wildlife in the most severely affected areas. To conduct their research, they are allowed to stay for extended periods, but they must ensure that their exposure to radiation remains within acceptable limits.
