A Ukrainian Olympic submission film from two years ago, with a cinematographic style similar to the poetic films of Tarkovsky, set against the backdrop of the Great Purge in the Soviet Union. It is a highly-rated second Olympic submission by director Oles Sanin, whose previous submission was the 2003 film "Mamay," which relates to Ukraine's history, encompassing famine and the Great Purge. It can be seen as a revolutionary film about national independence, telling the adventures of small characters from a child's perspective and witnessing a somber part of history through the eyes of an outsider.
