During World War II, Soviet pilot Mikhail Devyatyev was captured by German forces during a mission. In the prisoner of war camp, he attempted to escape but failed, and was later taken by the Germans to a concentration camp on Usedom Island. Due to a lack of labor, he was drafted to participate in the production of the German V2 rockets, while also dealing with unexploded ordnance and building runways. Over time, he developed the idea of stealing a German plane to flee back to his country. To achieve this plan, he began looking for opportunities to learn about the construction and operation of German aircraft. Ultimately, on February 8, 1945, he successfully stole a German bomber and took nine other prisoners of war with him to escape Germany and return to his homeland. This film is based on true events.
