During the Republic of China era, Southern Wing Chun successor Chen Shi (played by Liao Fan) arrives in Tianjin and meets the martial arts master Zheng Shan'ao (played by Jin Shijie). To establish himself in the martial arts community, Zheng suggests that Chen use the traditional method of having his disciple challenge other schools. After many twists and turns, Chen marries a stunning woman from Tianjin, Zhao Guohui (played by Song Jia), and takes in a local youth, Geng Liangchen (played by Song Yang), as his disciple to challenge the schools. The couple temporarily resides in a slum to avoid revenge from enemies seeking to challenge them.
