The story takes place in the suburbs of San Francisco. On one side, Jack (played by Jeff Bridges) is still immersed in the sorrow of his wife Peggy's (played by Maria Mayenzet) death, while on the other side, he has become a key suspect for the police because Peggy came from a wealthy family, and her death means that her coveted fortune will fall into Jack's hands. In order to clear his name, Jack hires a female lawyer named Teddy (played by Glenn Close), and during their interactions, the relationship between Jack and Teddy gradually becomes ambiguous. Can Teddy see through the fog to uncover the truth between reason and emotion? Is this man beside her really as innocent as he appears? As she approaches the truth, danger gradually comes closer behind her.
