In 1989, the town of Derry, Maine, is under the shadow of terror. Since the previous year, a series of child disappearances have occurred, as if a horrifying unknown presence has quietly arrived among the people. Young Billy (Jaeden Lieberher), who has lost his brother, decides to team up with friends Eddie, Richie, and Stanley to search for his brother George during the summer vacation. Soon after, the bullied chubby kid Ben, the wildly rumored bad girl Beverly, and the orphan Mike, whose parents died in a fire, join this laughed-at gang of misfits. Throughout this journey, they experience a series of supernatural horror events. The boys discover that in this cursed town, every 27 years, the number of unnatural deaths skyrockets.
