Alex (Malcolm McDowell) is a delinquent youth whose peculiar taste is to commit acts of violence against women while listening to Beethoven's symphonies. After breaking into a villa and robbing it, he severely injures the owner—a novelist—and abuses his wife according to his preferences. Later, after killing a young woman, Alex is imprisoned and undergoes a special treatment for his personality. Upon his release, he becomes completely weary of debauchery. When Alex returns home, the people around him have not changed their previous opinions of him. Under the pressure of various forms of discrimination, he escapes to a villa in the countryside, only to discover that this is the same one he had previously robbed from the novelist. The novelist, now the leader of an anti-government organization, places Alex under house arrest for a certain purpose. When this becomes public and the novelist is arrested, his followers threaten to revert Alex to his former self, completely disregarding his protests of "I am completely fine."
