The TV anime is set in the Showa Genroku era, primarily depicting the complex interpersonal relationships of storytellers (rakugo performers). The proud and solitary master, Yakumo, as well as Yotarou, who insists on becoming his disciple, and Konatsu, the child of the late ally of Yakumo known as "the unparalleled master," who is raised by Yakumo, are among the colorful characters appearing in this work. Unable to forget the "Grim Reaper" Yakumo encountered during a rakugo event in prison, Yotarou heads straight to the theater upon his release. Upon kneeling before Yakumo, he becomes his live-in worker and disciple, only to discover that a woman named Konatsu lives with Yakumo. It seems that Yakumo and Konatsu share a bond that others cannot touch...
