In 1959, a female corpse was discovered by the banks of the Musashino Genpaku Temple River in Tokyo. The deceased, named Setsuko Ikuta (played by Fumino Kimura), was a flight attendant specializing in international routes. An autopsy confirmed that Setsuko was strangled to death by someone using brute force with their arm. The Metropolitan Police Department quickly formed a task force, and the soon-to-retire detective Rokuro Fujisawa (played by Takeshi Kitano) volunteered to join. Fujisawa appears to be a troublesome character who does not follow the rules and acts independently, so the organization assigned rookie detective Yutaka Ichimura (played by Eita) to team up with him in order to restrain Fujisawa's actions. However, Ichimura is unable to control the senior officer, and soon the two uncover that a blue Renault belonging to a foreign national was present at the crime scene on the night of the incident, leading them to track down the Brazilian Guirimo Church. Due to the involvement of foreigners, the investigation faced immense pressure. Meanwhile, Fujisawa, who vowed to clear the victim's name, continues to pursue the darkness... This film is adapted from a novel by renowned mystery writer Seicho Matsumoto, based on a true story.
