Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara (Geena Davis), a loving couple who run a hardware store, pour all their love into decorating their home, despite not having children. One day, while out on a trip, they suffer a fatal car accident. As ghosts, they cannot bear to leave their home, but after their death, they can only watch as new owners move in. The new residents, Delia and Charles, make drastic changes to the house, and Adam and Barbara attempt ghostly antics to scare them away, but their efforts fail. Instead, they catch the interest of Delia’s eccentric daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder), who finds them amusing. Desperate, the couple follows the guidance of a handbook for the deceased and seeks the help of a mischievous and rogue spirit, Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), to reclaim their home...
