In a world that has been thoroughly explored, the great hole known as the "Abyss" is the last remaining secret realm. In this bottomless, enormous vertical cave, not only do various bizarre creatures reside, but also precious relics that humanity cannot produce today lie in slumber. The incredible mystery of the "Abyss" attracts people to venture into its depths one after another. Gradually, those who repeatedly challenged the great hole began to be called "Cave Divers." Orphan Riko lives in the town of "Os", built around the Abyss, and dreams of becoming a great Cave Diver like her mother and uncovering the mystery of the Abyss. One day, Riko's mother's white whistle is discovered, prompting her to resolve to dive deep into the Abyss. The amnesiac robot Reg, whom she found, also decides to accompany her in search of its memories. Riko is tormented by poisonous beads in the fourth layer of the Abyss until she is rescued by a tragic end named Nanachi. After Nanachi joins, the three continue their adventure to the fifth layer of the Abyss where Pendoro resides. There, they meet a girl who calls herself Prushka. Raised by Pendoro, she knows nothing of the outside world. Prushka is deeply fascinated by Riko's adventure stories and hopes to join her, but she falls victim to Pendoro's experiments. However, later Prushka changes form, becoming Riko's white whistle, and they head towards the sixth layer of the Abyss, the "City of No Return." There lies a "village of tragic endings," where beings of tragic endings with their own set of values live.
