The story takes place in Japan during the Edo period, where a mysterious man appears before the samurai Katsura Kotarou (voiced by Akira Ishida), wielding the cursed sword "Red Cherry Blossom" and requesting to test his sword. After that night, Katsura goes missing. Katsura's pet Elizabeth (voiced by Nobuhiro Takamoto) seeks out Kagura (voiced by Rie Kugimiya) and Shinpachi (voiced by Daisuke Sakaguchi) from the Odd Jobs agency, commissioning them to find their master. Meanwhile, Gintoki (voiced by Tomokazu Sugita) is also tasked with finding the whereabouts of the wicked Red Cherry Blossom. The clues of the three lead them to an airship, far from police jurisdiction, where the evildoers reign supreme. There, Gintoki encounters his former comrade turned rival, Takasugi Shinsuke (voiced by Takehito Koyasu), who is leading his army of demons in an attempt to destroy Edo. Faced with the ruthless terrorists on one side and the bloodthirsty cursed sword Red Cherry Blossom on the other, will the severely injured Gintoki be able to escape safely and save Edo? This movie is a remake of the "Red Cherry Blossom Arc" from the Gintama animation, featuring the Shinsengumi, which did not appear in the original work.
