A-Ping (played by Akira Ozawa), who has crossed the age of no longer being perplexed, makes a living by producing erotic audio-visual products. By chance, he falls in love with his landlady, the widow Ah-Chun (played by Sumiko Sakamoto), who runs a barbershop, and they effectively become husband and wife. Although Ah-Chun longs for a new life, she is deeply apprehensive. She believes that the koi fish born on the day her husband passed away is his reincarnation, so any abnormal behavior from the koi triggers her sensitive nerves. Ah-Chun has a son and a daughter; her son, Kōichi (played by Masamichi Kondo), is a high school student who cannot detach from his mother's care, while her daughter, Keiko (played by Keiko Sagawa), appears overly independent and shares a complicated ambiguity with A-Ping. As Ah-Chun suddenly falls ill, this ordinary yet strange family gradually moves toward imbalance... This film is adapted from a work by Akira Yoshimura.
