Utena Tenjou (voiced by Rinko Kawaguchi) lost her parents at a young age. One day, she meets a handsome prince, who gives her a ring and tells her that this ring might allow them to meet again in the distant future. The prince's handsome figure and gentle words left a deep impression on Utena's heart, and she hopes to be as graceful as he is one day. Guided by the ring, Utena enrolls in Ohtori Academy, where a game called the Prince's Game is popular. The winner of a duel can claim the "Rose Bride," Anthy Himemiya (voiced by Yuriko Yamamoto), and become her master. Kaoru Miki (voiced by Takashi Kusao) is currently Anthy's master, but Utena eventually defeats him and claims Anthy. Over time, a deep bond develops between Utena and Anthy.
