The story revolves around two talented high school girls in the 21st century, who arrive in an era where one's life is determined by their skill in Mahjong. One is Miyanaga Saki, a girl who can finish every game with a score of zero, neither winning nor losing. The other is Harumura Nodoka, who is the champion of the individual category in the national high school Mahjong competition, an experienced data-oriented player. Due to a chance encounter and being defeated by Saki's indifferent style of play, she tells Saki, "You don't like Mahjong." This remark provokes Saki, igniting her fighting spirit and prompting her to join her school's Mahjong club to catch up with her sister. Thus, both girls head towards the pinnacle of the Mahjong world. "Genius Mahjong Girl: National Edition" (Japanese: 咲-Saki-全国編) is a television anime adapted from the manga "Genius Mahjong Girl," continuing the storyline from the 2009 anime "Genius Mahjong Girl," depicting the story of Suzaku High School entering the national competition. Currently, the first season of the TV version has concluded with the second round of the lower bracket of the national competition, where Suzaku High School faced Hime Matsuno High School, Nagamizu Girls' High School, and Miyamori High School. The manga version has entered the third round.
