A very ordinary girl, Nami Hinata, disguises herself as a girl who does not attend school but discovers that the school is full of oddities. The extremely optimistic girl, Kaoru Fuuura, sees everything with a positive outlook; the rigid girl, Chitose Kizu, gets tangled up with Nami over the question of "why a girl who doesn't go to school is at school"; even their homeroom teacher, Nozomu Itoshiki, is too busy with suicide to teach. The ordinary girl Nami, who always believed that "ordinary is definitely not a good word," ends up being the odd one out in the classroom. Indeed, under the leadership of the ultra-negative teacher, Mr. Despair, Nozomu Itoshiki, all 32 members of Class 2-B are somewhat abnormal. With his catchphrase "I've despaired!
