In the spring with cherry blossoms fluttering, a girl named Fuura Kafuka on her way to school discovers a man hanging from a cherry blossom tree. In a hurry, she saves him but receives a strange question, "What if I really die?!" Faced with this super pessimistic man, the optimistic Kafuka proposes a nonsensical explanation: "Hanging people just want to be taller," and calls the man “Peach-colored Minister.” Upon leaving the man, Fuura Kafuka arrives at her classroom, only to find that the man she just met is the new teacher at the school—Itoshiki Nozomu. Known as "Despair Teacher" by the students because the kanji of his name means "despair," his catchphrase is "I am in despair! I am in despair about this world of XX." Thus begins his comedic school life with 32 students in Class 2-H.
