Baby Jane Hudson (Bette Davis) was once a popular child star, and the entire Hudson family relied on her income to survive, which twisted and warped her character over time. Compared to Jane, her sister Blanche Hudson (Joan Crawford) was merely an insignificant ugly duckling; not only did Jane ignore her, but even their father treated her poorly, leading Blanche to harbor seeds of resentment in her heart. As adults, the sisters' positions reversed; Jane's foolishness and eccentricities made her gradually fall out of favor, while the more attractive Blanche achieved unprecedented success in the entertainment industry. Despite Blanche's efforts to support Jane, Jane could not balance her internal struggles and always sought ways to undermine her sister. A sudden car accident leaves Blanche permanently unable to walk, and Jane becomes increasingly unhinged. Blanche wishes to send Jane to a hospital, but Jane aims to erase Blanche's existence entirely and completely replace her. The two closest women begin a life of mutual torment in a secluded villa, and beneath this life seems to hide an unspeakable secret.
