The story takes place in the distant year 2020, where humanity first tasted complete defeat in the war against the mysterious creatures known as "Xenoturbella." Lands were stripped away, rights were oppressed, and under a ruthless dictatorship, humanity was forced to live a repressive life of mere survival. However, even so, the strong-willed people did not give up on the opportunity to resist. To fight against the powerful enemy, the "Heavenly Child Civil Guard Company" was established. On the surface, Ren Taro Satome (voiced by Yuuki Kaji) seems like an ordinary sixteen-year-old, but in reality, he has already become a member of the "Civil Guard" at a young age.
