The work is based on the many famous stories of the renowned Japanese mystery novelist Edogawa Rampo, combining Rampo's fantastical worldview with a modern setting. The animation tells the story of a murder incident involving a teacher at a certain high school. A boy named Kobayashi, who attends this school, encounters the genius detective Akechi who has come to investigate the case. Interested in Akechi, who only investigates unusual crimes, Kobayashi volunteers to become his "assistant" despite his friend Hashiba's objections. As strange events continue to occur, Kobayashi quickly joins Akechi in the investigation.
