A fire has burned down the apartment where middle school student Takashi Nagumi (voiced by Misuzu Yamada) relied on for survival. With his father missing and having hit rock bottom, Nagumi wanders aimlessly through the vast city until he eventually collapses on the street. Fortunately, he receives help from a female university student, Chimi Neru (voiced by Tomoaki Takahashi), who suggests that Nagumi take a job as a dormitory manager at her university's dormitory. This way, Nagumi not only finds a place to live but can also work to support himself.
