In the year 2000, at Mount Kuroda in Nagano, an excavation of a mysterious relic is underway. When the investigation team opens a coffin found within the relic, they are suddenly attacked by strange creatures and all are killed. On the scene investigating the murders of the investigation team, Nagano Prefectural Police officer Ichijo Kaoru is confronted by a young man who intrudes without permission. This young man, whom Ichijo stops, claims to be an adventurer named Yusuke Godai. The resurrected entities appear near Nagano and begin to attack people indiscriminately, even charging into the police station. Yusuke senses a warrior image emanating from a belt-like artifact excavated from the relic and currently held by the police. Following his instincts as an adventurer, he equips the artifact around his waist. Yusuke's body is then enveloped in armor, and after a fierce battle with the monster attacking the police station, he finally defeats it, officially becoming the warrior "Kuuga." He resolves to fight to protect the smiles of those around him, freeing them from fear...
