The protagonist of this work, Rintarou Okabe (voiced by Mamoru Miyano), is a university student suffering from serious chuunibyou. He calls himself "Kyouma Hououin" and, along with his friends, forms the "Future Gadget Laboratory" in a makeshift lab located in Akihabara, where they conduct various bizarre inventions and investigations. On July 28, 2010, Okabe, along with his childhood friend Mayuri (voiced by Kana Hanazawa), went to a science lecture venue, where they met the genius girl Kurisu Makise (voiced by Mamiko Noto). An unexpected event occurs when Okabe hears a scream in the hallway of the venue. He rushes over to find Kurisu lying in a pool of blood. Okabe sends a text message about this incident to his friend Itaru Hashida, and this action leads to a world-altering situation. The so-called "Future Gadget" in the lab can genuinely influence the course of the world, making Okabe a solitary observer from that point on. All of this is the choice of the Steins;Gate.
