The story takes place in a seaside town named Mishimazaki, at the private Mihama Academy, where a transfer student named Yuji Kazami (voiced by Takahiro Sakurai) arrives. However, Yuji is surprised to find that there are only five students in the academy, all of whom are female. Thus, within the confines of the small high walls, Yuji's new life begins. The five seemingly innocent girls each have dark pasts: the beautiful but reclusive lady Sakaki Yumiko (voiced by Ryoko Tanaka), the cheerful and slightly tomboyish Suo Kaname (voiced by Hiroko Taguchi), the stubborn and proud Matsushima Mitsuki (voiced by Kaori Mizuhashi) with an extreme lack of luck, the innocent-looking yet tragically past-laden Iruka Sakana (voiced by Tomoe Minami), and the devotedly naive Kogane Saki (voiced by Ai Shimizu). Can Yuji's arrival clear the gloom in their hearts?
