In his 70s, Harry Brown (played by Michael Caine) is a retired Royal Navy officer living alone in a small apartment near a rundown area after the death of his wife, relying on his pension. The nearby pedestrian tunnel is a hotspot for street fights, drug trafficking, and prostitution, where his good friend, an elderly man named Leonard (played by David Bradley), is often harassed by local thugs and ultimately brutally murdered. Female police officer Frampton (played by Emily Mortimer) and her subordinate investigate the case but have to release Leonard's killer due to lack of evidence. Fed up with the situation, the elderly Brown decides to take matters into his own hands and eliminate the thugs to avenge Leonard. This film won the Best British Film and Best Thriller awards, and received a nomination for Best Actor (Michael Caine) in the 2010 Empire magazine awards, as well as a nomination for Breakthrough British Filmmaker (Daniel Barber) from the London Critics Circle.
