The tranquil mountain village enters the rainy season. The old lumberjack Kikuya (played by Hiroshi Abe) is a stern man with a strained relationship with his son. On his way to work, he guides newcomer director Koichi Tanabe (played by Shun Oguri) and the assistant director from Tokyo, thus getting drawn into the filming of a zombie movie on location. After being forced to act as a temporary actor, Kikuya surprisingly develops a subtle interest in the film. He begins to uninvitedly assist the crew in communicating with the villagers and getting work done, even neglecting his own duties and the anniversary of his wife's death. The sudden intrusion of the film crew disrupts the tranquility of the mountain village and Kikuya's life, as well as changing director Koichi himself. Koichi, shy and lacking confidence, has no authority in the crew. He accidentally discovers that Kikuya appreciates his zombie script, which greatly encourages him, leading to a wonderful communication between them during their bath times. With Kikuya’s help, Koichi slowly builds his confidence, and the film shooting gets on track. However, a sudden downpour before the final scene puts the filming in crisis, and Kikuya's absence leaves Koichi feeling lost... The film won the Jury Prize at the 24th Tokyo International Film Festival. The two lead actors, Hiroshi Abe and Shun Oguri, have both directed in real life.
