The story takes place in the picturesque, tranquil, and peaceful Kamakura, where Ichinatsu Tachibana (voiced by Yoko Hondo) is an ordinary second-year middle school girl who was born and raised here. Her friends include the gentle and refined Akira Hōriko (voiced by Yurika Ochiai), who can befriend everyone; the energetic and cheerful Satsuki Takigawa (voiced by Rinko Kawakami), who is athletically gifted; and the mysteriously backgrounded Madoka Munakata (voiced by Yukari Tamura), who often displays a maturity and wisdom beyond her years. The bond among these four girls is very strong. On the last day of the term, after leaving school, Ichinatsu discovers that her beloved charm has been left in the classroom, so she returns to the school, where she encounters a girl named Maki Kuroshima (voiced by Masumi Asano). The wheels of fate begin to turn.
