In 1939, the Sino-Japanese War raged on. Young nurse Sakurako (played by Wakaei Fumiko) is sent to work at a Japanese army hospital in Tianjin. Her pure beauty attracts the young soldiers who have faced death in battle. One night, Sakurako is raped by a group of wounded soldiers led by Sakamoto (played by Chiba Joutarou), and as punishment, Sakamoto is sent back to the front lines. Two months later, the war intensifies. Sakurako is dispatched to assist a frontline hospital in Shenkou. There, countless soldiers are injured by the war. Sakurako and the attending doctor Okabe (played by Ashida Shinshuke) work tirelessly every day, even resorting to amputations to shorten treatment time in order to save more lives. During this time, Sakurako encounters the critically injured Sakamoto, comforts the severely wounded Corporal Oreura (played by Kawatsu Yusuke), and gradually develops feelings for Doctor Okabe. In an era of war, even the smallest happiness seems luxurious and hopeless... This film is adapted from the original work by Arima Yoshiyoshi.
