Ash Blake, a first-year student in the advanced course at the dragon-riding academy "Ansarivan Dragon Rider Academy" located in the knightly country of "The Nation That Raises Dragons" Rothraemon, is considered the academy's top troublemaker due to his unique talent yet the lack of a dragon partner. One day, during a dragon race held by the academy, Ash encounters spies from another country. Although he manages to fend them off, he falls off a cliff. At that moment, the star-mark engraved on Ash's left arm shines, leading to the birth of a young dragon that helps him survive. However, the newborn dragon takes the form of a human girl and, upon awakening, declares to Ash, "I'm your master!" Thus, Ash Blake, "the man who can ride any dragon," begins his tumultuous academy life with his unique partner, Eiko.
