A cold male voice brings the story to life. Adolescence is a threshold that the five Lisbon daughters cannot cross. The first to commit suicide is the youngest daughter, Cecilia (Hanna R. Hall). She becomes fragile and depressed, wanting to end her life, with no clear reason behind it. Her parents believe that letting her date boys will improve the situation. However, Cecilia chooses to say goodbye to life anyway.
The daughter who frequently dates and is more carefree is Lux (Kirsten Dunst). Lux meets the playboy Trip and has a relationship with him, but is ultimately discarded by him. The Lisbon parents, fearing the loss of another daughter, lose their reason. They confine their four daughters at home, giving them the strictest protection. Yet, the tragedy of suicide spreads quickly like an epidemic.
