"Itachi's True Story ~Light and Dark~," as the twenty-third chapter of Shippuden, aired from March to May 2016. As an original animated chapter, it is adapted from two spin-off novels released on September 4 and October 2, 2015, titled "Itachi's True Story ~Light Chapter~" and "Itachi's True Story ~Dark Night Chapter~." Similar to the novels, the story focuses on Uchiha Itachi and his experiences as a ninja throughout his life. The opening and closing segments of the chapter are adapted from Chapter 678 of the original manga. Contains episodes 671~678
