Since ancient times, all living beings have been born with two types of energy—energy of happiness and energy of misfortune. However, the balance of these two energies has been disrupted in the Japanese city of Tsushi. The poverty god, who governs the balance of luck and misfortune in the divine realm, sends the poverty god Kureha (voiced by Yumi Uchiyama) to the human world to investigate the culprit behind the disruption of luck, Sakurako (voiced by Kana Hanazawa). Sixteen-year-old high school student Sakurako is a natural lucky person, embodying beauty, intelligence, wealth, and athleticism; she has never known the meaning of effort or failure since birth. Kureha observes through glasses that measure the levels of happy and unhappy energies and discovers that Sakurako not only possesses a significantly higher level of happiness energy than others but is also constantly drawing happiness energy from those around her.
